Franz Mayr’ s Pico 5

Franz Mayr from Augsburg was a top German F3A pilot in the 1980s. He designed and built his own F3A aerobatic aircraft back in 1973. He called it PICO.

Franz competed in aerobatic competitions for many years with the Pico 3. The Pico 3 was available as a kit from Rödel Modell.

Thanks to his outstanding results in the German F3A Bundesliga competitions, Franz qualified as a member of the German national team for the 1983 F3A Aerobatic World Championships in the USA.

This required a new, more modern aircraft. Together with his friend Norbert Motzko, the two extended the Pico fuselage and adjusted the wings accordingly.

It was not easy for model aircraft enthusiasts to obtain such an extended Pico fuselage. The ‘Motzko-Pico’ was only available to a few pilots, as the fuselages were a rarity.
